LAHORE: Students of Punjab University (PU) staged a massive protest outside the Lahore Press Club against what they termed the university administration’s “anti-student policies.”
The protestors highlighted that the administration’s decision not to offer a summer semester has left hundreds of students facing a one-year delay in completing their degrees.
Furthermore, demonstrators expressed outrage over the illegal closure of university hostels, despite full annual fees having already been collected. As a result, thousands of students have been forced to arrange expensive private accommodations to complete their mandatory internships, leaving many stranded and struggling to find shelter.
The protesting students also raised their voices against alleged rampant corruption within the university administration.
Addressing the demonstration, Ahsan Fareed, the Nazim of Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) Punjab University, assured the students that the fight for their fundamental rights would continue until their demands are met.
“Canceling the summer semester and shutting down hostels is tantamount to depriving students of their basic educational rights,” Fareed stated, vowing to take the movement to its logical conclusion.
