U.S: Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has urged Uzbekistan and the United States to expand economic cooperation, pointing to opportunities in critical minerals, energy and advanced technology.
Speaking at the second meeting of the Uzbekistan-U.S. Business and Investment Council in Samarkand, Mirziyoyev welcomed U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, presidential special envoy Sergio Gor and representatives of American companies and financial institutions.
He said relations between the two countries had reached their highest level, and called for stronger economic ties to build on their political partnership.
Mirziyoyev said trade between the countries was growing and hundreds of U.S.-invested companies were operating in Uzbekistan. He also noted that Uzbek businesses were beginning to invest in the United States.
Critical minerals were identified as a priority, with Uzbekistan seeking cooperation across the sector, from developing deposits and processing raw materials to producing high-technology goods.
In energy, Mirziyoyev invited U.S. companies to help modernize Uzbekistan’s power system and develop renewable energy and energy-storage projects.
He also proposed deeper cooperation in digital technology and artificial intelligence, including data centers and digital solutions for industry, agriculture, education and public administration.
A package of 54 agreements and proposed initiatives worth about $12 billion was prepared for the meeting, following work involving 45 Uzbek ministries and agencies.
Mirziyoyev called for simpler investment procedures, joint industrial clusters and research centers, and a bilateral trade, investment and technology program through 2035.
