LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a special meeting of the Saaf Pani Authority to review clean drinking water initiatives across the province. During the session, she set a definitive target to complete 5,734 water filtration plants by June 2027, emphasizing timely execution and broad accessibility.

To ensure transparency and operational efficiency, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif handed over the monitoring of water filtration plants to the respective Assistant Commissioners. Under this initiative, public committees headed by the Assistant Commissioner will be established for every local water filtration plant in neighborhoods and streets.

In a significant step to maintain uninterrupted service, the government decided to establish ‘Mobile Maintenance Units’ in every tehsil for the repair and rehabilitation of water filtration plants. These mobile workshops will be equipped with plumbers and other technical staff to provide immediate response and upkeep.

The Chief Minister also approved the ‘Last Mile Water Supply Project’ aimed at providing clean water to the most affected and underserved areas of Chakwal, Rajanpur, and Rawalpindi. On a priority basis, water supply lines spanning 256 kilometers in Chakwal and 1,780 kilometers in Rajanpur will be constructed.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was given a detailed briefing on ongoing water bottling plants in four districts: Khushab, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, and Bahawalpur. These plants produce thousands of 19-liter water bottles daily. Within a short span, 4.8 million people have benefited from the CM Water Bottling Project, with over 75,000 water bottles delivered directly to citizens’ homes.

“Clean Water is a Fundamental Right of the Public,” Says CM Maryam Nawaz

Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated that clean water is a fundamental right of the people, and every individual must receive it.

Expressing gratitude for being the first to deliver clean water directly to homes in Punjab, she announced that following Chakwal, Rajanpur, and Rawalpindi, similar water supply schemes will be expanded to other regions, ensuring citizens no longer have to endure the hardship of fetching water from miles away.
