Lahore : Pakistan Peoples Party Central Punjab General Secretary Syed Hassan Murtaza has strongly condemned the anti-farmer decision to import 1 million metric tons of wheat and said that if local farmers’ wheat was purchased for Rs 95 billion, Pakistan would have been in a position to export it. Those who did not buy wheat till yesterday are recommending a support price of Rs 4,500 today.
He said that the government’s wrong agricultural policies have caused serious damage to the farmers. The results of ignoring the farmers are being revealed today in the form of flour and bread crisis. Hassan Murtaza suggested that the current crisis can be overcome with the abundant wheat available with PASCO. However, the agricultural crisis cannot end without taking the farmers and their representative organizations into confidence.
He further said that the government is not the representative of the farmers, that is why serious attention is not being paid to agricultural problems. He warned that if the current policies continue, a new sugar crisis may also arise. The farmer is not getting a fair price and timely payment for his crop and the potato crop is already ruined. The situation is getting worse due to government indifference. Hassan Murtaza said that urgent and effective government decisions are needed to save the agricultural sector.
The Pakistan People’s Party stands with the farmer in every difficult moment. We strongly condemn the government’s anti-farmer policies and will not allow the agricultural sector to be destroyed further.
