NAGOYA: Sri Lanka and Bangladesh reached the men’s Asian Games cricket semi-finals on Tuesday without playing, after more rain in Nagoya.
Sri Lanka will play India in the semi-finals, while Bangladesh will face Pakistan. Both matches are planned for Thursday.
Organizers are working quickly to prepare the baseball field at Korogi Athletic Park for the games.
Sri Lanka moved on after rain stopped their quarter-final against Nepal. In bad weather, the higher-ranked team moves forward.
Bangladesh were given a win over lower-ranked Malaysia for the same reason.
Pakistan and defending champions India reached the semi-finals after rain also stopped both of their matches on Monday.
“Cricket, like baseball, can’t be played in the rain,” said Jarrad Shearer, who is in charge of the cricket tournament.
Heavy rain has fallen in Nagoya and Aichi prefecture in recent days, but better weather is expected from Wednesday.
“Tomorrow morning, everyone will work to dry the areas that aren’t covered,” Shearer said.
“We have water-absorbing tools, squeegees, large brooms and sponges.
“It’s also expected to be sunny and 32C. Hopefully, we can remove as much water as possible in the morning, and the sun will dry the field in the afternoon.”
India beat Sri Lanka to win the women’s gold medal.
