MELBOURNE: The 2026 Capital Men’s Australian Open is set to begin on December 3 and continue through December 6, bringing some of the world’s leading professional golfers to Melbourne, Australia.

The prestigious championship will be staged at Kingston Heath Golf Club, one of Melbourne’s renowned Sandbelt courses. The tournament will feature leading Australian and international golfers competing for the historic Australian Open title.

Unlike team sports such as cricket or football, the Australian Open is an individual professional golf championship. Players compete across the tournament’s rounds, with the overall champion determined by the lowest aggregate score. Therefore, the event does not involve a fixed number of teams or conventional matches.

The 2026 field includes major international names, with four-time major champion Rory McIlroy among the headline players. Australian stars including Adam Scott and Cameron Smith are also expected to compete, alongside Cam Davis, Lucas Herbert and Elvis Smylie.

New Zealand’s Daniel Hillier will also attract attention. Hillier finished tied sixth at last year’s Australian Open and won the New Zealand Open in 2026. He will be looking to become the first New Zealand player to win the men’s Australian Open.

Former Australian Open champion Cam Davis will return to the championship. Davis won the Stonehaven Cup in 2017 and will be seeking a second Australian Open title.

The championship is being co-sanctioned through the strategic alliance between the DP World Tour and the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia, adding an international dimension to the event.

The 2026 Australian Open will be held at Kingston Heath from December 3–6, with the final round on December 6 determining the champion.

The tournament is expected to attract significant attention from Australian and international golf fans as leading players compete for one of Australia’s historic national sporting titles.
