Government Highlights Investor-Friendly Policies to Chinese Business Leaders,Pakistan-China Business Forum Delegation Shows Interest in Tourism & Agriculture

LAHORE: A high-level delegation from the Pakistan-China Business Forum visited the provincial capital on Wednesday to explore lucrative investment opportunities across various sectors in Punjab, with a primary focus on agriculture, livestock, and tourism.

During a comprehensive briefing session hosted at the Planning and Development (P&D) Board, the delegation was received by a senior provincial leadership team. The welcoming committee included Punjab Provincial Minister for Agriculture Syed Ashiq Hussain Shah Kirmani, Secretary Agriculture Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, Secretary Livestock Ahmad Aziz Tarar, and Secretary Tourism, Archaeology, and Museums Sooqrat Aman Rana.

The Chinese delegates were given an in-depth presentation on the Punjab government’s investor-friendly policies, regulatory reforms, and ease-of-doing-business initiatives aimed at streamlining foreign direct investment (FDI).

The briefing spotlighted major investment avenues within:

  • Agricultural Value Chains & Agribusiness: Modern farming techniques and technology transfers.
  • Livestock Development: Enhancing production and dairy infrastructure.
  • Tourism and Hospitality: Upgrading infrastructure and promoting cultural, sustainable, and religious tourism.

The provincial officials highlighted Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s “Magnificent Punjab” vision, which aims to leverage the province’s rich cultural heritage, ancient museums, and religious tourism sites to build a sustainable tourism economy.

Addressing the delegation, Provincial Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Shah Kirmani detailed the financial incentives, infrastructure readiness, and policy support guaranteed by the provincial government, inviting Chinese enterprises to form joint ventures with local partners.

The presentations triggered an interactive Q&A session covering regulatory frameworks, profit repatriation, and public-private partnership models. Expressing satisfaction with the facilitation measures, the Chinese corporate representatives expressed a strong intent to deepen economic cooperation and finalize investment plans in the near future.

Key Appointment: To maintain momentum, Secretary Agriculture Iftikhar Ali Sahoo has been officially designated as the focal person to ensure smooth, ongoing coordination between the Punjab government and the Pakistan-China Business Forum.

Beyond the boardroom, the delegation was treated to a cultural tour of the historic city. They visited the Lahore Museum, where they inspected rare historical artifacts and ancient sculptures.

The delegates also participated in the acclaimed “History by Night” program, experiencing the walled city’s illuminated architectural heritage. The cultural visit concluded with the presentation of traditional commemorative souvenirs to the foreign guests.

The provincial leadership thanked the delegation for their visit, reaffirming Punjab’s commitment to playing a foundational role in the evolving economic and industrial partnership between Pakistan and China.
