18 HAZARI: Despite ongoing beautification and development initiatives in 18-Hazari, residents continue to face serious problems due to inadequate sewerage and drainage facilities in the city.
The situation becomes particularly difficult after rainfall, when water accumulates on roads and in low-lying areas, disrupting traffic and making movement difficult for pedestrians and motorists.
Stagnant wastewater in several localities has also added to the problems faced by residents and traders.
Citizens said that while considerable attention is being given to improving the appearance of the city, its basic municipal infrastructure remains neglected.
They stressed that beautification alone cannot improve living conditions unless the city’s long-standing drainage and sewerage problems are addressed.
Residents called for a comprehensive drainage plan covering the inner city, including rehabilitation of existing sewerage lines, improvement of drains and the provision of an effective system for the disposal of rainwater and wastewater.
They urged the district and tehsil administrations and the relevant departments to address the issue on a permanent basis and ensure that future development projects focus not only on the appearance of the city but also on essential civic infrastructure.
