WCSJ Seeks to Global Participation in Science Journalism

World Conference of Science Journalists (WCSJ2027) will take place from September 6 to 9, 2027

LAHORE: An international travel fellowship programme for the 2027 World Conference of Science Journalists is seeking to broaden participation by journalists who face financial barriers to attending professional events abroad.

The 14th World Conference of Science Journalists (WCSJ2027) will take place from September 6 to 9, 2027, at Central Hall Westminster in London, under the theme “Strengthening Science Journalism Through Global Networks.”

Hosted by the Association of British Science Writers and the World Federation of Science Journalists, the conference will bring together science journalists, writers, communicators and other professionals to exchange ideas and discuss developments in science reporting.

The WCSJ2027 Travel Fellowship is designed to help eligible applicants who would otherwise be unable to attend because of limited access to funding. Selected fellows may receive assistance with travel expenses, visa application costs, limited local transport, accommodation for up to six nights and full conference registration. Meals and refreshments included in the programme are also covered, but no daily allowance is provided.

The fellowship is open to eligible journalists and media professionals covering science-related subjects, including technology, climate and health, even if science journalism is not their primary specialisation. Eligible students in journalism and related fields may also apply.

Applicants must submit a professional biography, a CV of no more than two pages, three examples of work from the previous two years, a supporting letter and statements explaining their motivation, financial circumstances and plans for sharing knowledge gained at the conference.

The application deadline is October 23, 2026, at 23:59 British Summer Time. Selection will be competitive and will consider applicants’ experience, the quality of their work, their motivation, potential contribution and financial need.

The programme provides an opportunity for journalists to strengthen their professional skills and build international networks that can support more accurate, fair and accessible science reporting.
