18-HAZARI : Recent rainfall has raised concerns over the condition of newly constructed major roads passing through 18-Hazari, as rainwater has washed away soil from road shoulders at several locations, creating deep ditches and dangerous erosion.
The affected roads include the Khushab-Muzaffargarh Road, Jhang-Bhakkar Road and Layyah Road, where erosion along the edges has reportedly developed at multiple points following the rainfall.
According to local residents, timely repair and strengthening of the road shoulders is essential to prevent the erosion from expanding toward the main carriageways.
They expressed concern that failure to take immediate preventive measures could eventually cause further damage to the newly constructed roads.
Residents also questioned the apparent lack of field inspections by the concerned Highway Department officials after the rainfall and called for immediate action to secure the affected sections.
The citizens have urged the Commissioner Faisalabad Division, Deputy Commissioner Jhang and senior officials of the Highway Department to personally inspect the affected roads and ensure immediate and quality repairs.
They also called for an inquiry into why the shoulders of newly constructed roads were severely affected by what they described as relatively heavy rainfall, stressing that any construction or drainage-related shortcomings should be identified and addressed.
Residents warned that if immediate protective measures are not taken, the erosion could spread further, potentially causing significant additional damage to roads constructed with public funds.
They demanded practical action at the affected sites instead of limiting the matter to official files and reports.
