LAHROE: Pakistan Peoples Party Central Punjab President Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that Pakistan will protect its water resources at all costs and if India tries to stop Pakistan’s water, it will have to pay a heavy price, because water is Pakistan’s lifeline and it is not possible to stop it under any circumstances.

He said that Pakistan has emerged before the world today as a peace-loving and responsible state and is playing a positive role in promoting peace and stability in the region. Pakistan played an important role in efforts to end tensions between Iran and the United States and establish a ceasefire, in which Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal played a key role.

He expressed these views while addressing a press conference on Thursday along with Pakistan Peoples Party Central Punjab General Secretary Syed Hassan Murtaza. Provincial Information Secretary Shahzad Saeed Cheema, Senior Vice President Rana Farooq Saeed, Faisal Mir, Neelam Jabbar, Nargis Faiz Malik, Nadeem Asghar Kaira, Rao Babar Jamil, Zeeshan Shami and other leaders were also present on the occasion.

Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said that anti-Pakistan elements and terrorists are constantly trying to harm the peace and order of the country, therefore all political parties and every Pakistani should unite and speak for national stability and peace. He said that where there is peace, political and economic stability will also be assured, while public unity is indispensable to thwart the enemy’s intentions.

He said that not every news is based on reality, therefore the media should verify it completely before publishing any news so that the path of rumors and baseless information can be stopped. Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said that only clean, transparent and impartial elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir can form the basis for solving the problems there.

He said that Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will soon visit Azad Kashmir. He said that the entire leadership of the PPP, including Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed and President Asif Ali Zardari, have a deep and historical connection with Kashmir and the PPP will never compromise on the Kashmir issue.

He said that the issue of refugee seats is constitutional in nature, which will be decided by the new legislative assembly. He expressed confidence that the Pakistan Peoples Party will win the elections in Azad Kashmir with a huge majority. Raja Pervez Ashraf strongly criticized India’s behavior regarding the Indus Water Treaty and said that India is trying to stop Pakistan’s water, although it cannot unilaterally suspend the Indus Water Treaty.

He said that this position of India is illogical and the International Court of Justice has also rejected such a position. He said that differences between political parties are part of the democratic process, however, their solution should be found within the parliament. The Pakistan Peoples Party believes in peaceful political struggle and in the current circumstances, the country needs a comprehensive political dialogue, in which all political forces participate.

Raja Pervez Ashraf said that the PPP is the representative party of the people in Azad Kashmir and it does not need any assurance. He said that Kashmir is the jugular vein of Pakistan and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto always highlighted the national position on the Kashmir issue in a strong manner. He said that the PPP will not compromise on the Kashmir issue. He said that participating in elections is a fundamental democratic right of every citizen and every political party.

He urged the leadership and workers of the PTI not to block the path of negotiations and political dialogue. He clarified that he is not in favor of banning any political party from participating in politics or elections. Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said that India wants to take revenge for the May 10 defeat by creating instability in Pakistan, however, the entire nation should always remember the sacrifices of its armed forces and martyrs because many generations make sacrifices for the development and survival of nations.

He said that the change in the federal cabinet is the constitutional authority of the Prime Minister, however, the rule of law should be equal for all. He also demanded transparent and impartial justice in the case of alleged kidnapping of foreign women. Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said that preparations are underway for the Pakistan Peoples Party rally to be held at Minar-e-Pakistan on July 25 and the team of Faisal Mir and Dr. Ayesha is working hard in this regard.

He said that the local government system is active in Sindh under the PPP government and it is hoped that the fruits of the local government system will also reach the people of Punjab. On this occasion, Pakistan Peoples Party Central Punjab General Secretary Syed Hassan Murtaza said that the organization-building campaign is underway in the party and organizational changes are yet to be made in some districts.

He said that a special election cell has been established for the Azad Kashmir elections and workers’ conventions are being held in different districts to mobilize the workers. He said that the party has serious reservations about the delimitation of the local government elections and the government is committing irregularities in the delimitation.

Syed Hassan Murtaza said that those who used to raise slogans against the VIP culture in the past are now getting privileges for themselves. He said that after failing to get their leader released, they are now seen enacting legislation to increase privileges for themselves, while the people are suffering from inflation and economic difficulties.
