LAHORE: Global interest in critical minerals, mining investment and secure supply chains is expected to remain a major focus of the international resource sector ahead of the PDAC 2027 Convention, scheduled to take place in Toronto, Canada, from March 7 to 10.
The annual convention, organised by the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada, brings together mining companies, investors, government representatives, geoscientists and other professionals involved in mineral exploration and development.
The 2027 event is expected to provide an international platform for discussions on mineral exploration, investment opportunities, technological innovation and the development of reliable supply chains for resources used in modern manufacturing, renewable energy and advanced technologies.
Critical minerals have become increasingly important to governments and industries seeking secure access to materials needed for batteries, electric vehicles, electronics and energy infrastructure.
At the 2026 PDAC Convention, Canada’s government announced 30 new partnerships and investment initiatives under its Critical Minerals Production Alliance, expected to unlock C$12.1 billion in mining project capital. The announcement highlighted the growing importance of international cooperation in mineral production and supply-chain development.
Canada also announced more than C$165 million in investments for 22 projects focused on mining development, processing, research and related technologies during the 2026 convention.
For developing countries, the global focus on mineral resources presents both opportunities and challenges. Investment in geological research, transparent licensing, modern processing facilities and infrastructure can help resource-rich countries attract responsible investment and generate greater economic value from their mineral deposits.
Pakistan’s mineral sector could also benefit from greater international attention, provided that investment opportunities are supported by reliable geological information, transparent regulatory procedures, environmental safeguards and sustainable local development.
The upcoming convention may offer journalists an opportunity to examine how governments and businesses are responding to competition for critical minerals and how developing economies can participate in emerging supply chains.
According to the official PDAC website, media accreditation for the 2027 convention is scheduled to open in the fall of 2026. Qualified journalists may apply for a complimentary Media All Access Pass, subject to the organisers’ eligibility requirements and approval.
The convention will take place at Toronto’s Metro Toronto Convention Centre and other designated venues.
