LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders gathered in Lahore to celebrate party unity and outline their political strategy amid upcoming elections in Azad Kashmir and Punjab. Former Prime Minister and PPP President Raja Pervez Ashraf expressed confidence that the party will secure a government in Azad Kashmir, similar to its recent success in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Addressing a workers’ convention organized by the PPP Lahore Division at the Governor House Lahore, Ashraf dismissed claims of limited electoral support, stating, “Those talking about only 11 seats in Azad Kashmir have a hole in their pocket. Insha Allah, like GB, a PPP government will be formed in Azad Kashmir.” He emphasized the party’s growing voice across all corners and called for active campaigning across Punjab.

The event was also attended by prominent PPP leaders including General Secretary Central Punjab Syed Hassan Murtaza, Member of National Assembly Samina Khalid Gharki, Lahore PPP President Faisal Mir, General Secretary Dr. Ayesha Shaukat, and other local party officials. Celebrations included a 71st birthday cake for President Asif Ali Zardari, spectacular fireworks, and a performance by renowned singer Sahir Ali Bagga.

The convention was filled with slogans praising PPP leadership, including “Prime Minister Bilawal, hunter of dangers,” and “One Zardari, all together.” Several party workers and activists, including Tahira Jalib, recited revolutionary poetry, energizing the crowd.

Raja Pervez Ashraf congratulated Lahore’s party workers, praising their dedication amid challenging weather and political opposition. He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to grassroots outreach, stating, “We will visit every corner of Punjab and take our manifesto to the people.” He also announced that the PPP Foundation Day will be celebrated on November 30 in Lahore, with a speech by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Addressing internal party concerns, Ashraf urged unity and clarified that the PPP does not aim to create confusion with allies. “We support each other and uphold the dignity of the people,” he said. He emphasized that the core philosophy of PPP is to serve the common man, advocating mutual love, brotherhood, and national unity for Pakistan’s progress.

Syed Hassan Murtaza praised the Lahore convention’s success and highlighted ongoing challenges faced by the party. He criticized rising fuel prices and imported wheat policies that hurt farmers, warning that failure to unite could weaken the party’s position.

Member of National Assembly Samina Khalid Gharki paid tribute to the passionate turnout, despite adverse weather conditions. Faisal Mir, Lahore Division President, highlighted the resilience of PPP workers who remained steadfast at Minar Pakistan despite police threats and announced plans to recognize active activists.

The convention also saw calls for reforming local government elections, with PPP leaders urging the Punjab government to conduct party-based elections, provide social security cards to working families, and employment opportunities for youth.

The event concluded with calls for unity and renewed dedication to party ideals, promising to continue fighting for the rights of the common people and strengthening PPP’s presence across Punjab and Azad Kashmir.
