KARACHI: Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has paid rich tribute to the workers of Pakistan on the eve of Labour Day, describing them as the enduring spirit of the nation and the true architects of its progress and prosperity.

According to the press release issued by the Media Cell Bilawal House, the PPP Chairman said in his message that Labour Day serves as a solemn reminder of the historic struggle, sacrifice, and resilience of workers who have shaped the course of societies through their unwavering determination.

He said that the vision of a just and equitable Pakistan can only be realised by empowering workers, ensuring their rights, and investing in their well-being.

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the ideology of the PPP is inseparable from the cause of the working class, rooted in the principles of the dignity of labour, economic justice, and equality of opportunity.

“Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto transformed the landscape of labour rights in Pakistan by empowering workers with identity, protection, and a voice in the national discourse. Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto carried forward this torch of justice, deepening the state’s commitment to social welfare and uplifting the most vulnerable segments of society.

President Asif Ali Zardari further consolidated these gains by advancing pro-labour policies and strengthening the framework of social protection through various initiatives, including the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), which has particularly empowered women from working-class backgrounds,” he pointed out.

He also appreciated the initiatives of the PPP-led provincial government in Sindh, including the Benazir Mazdoor Card and the Benazir Hari Card, and stressed that workers in other provinces equally deserve access to such social protection measures.

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the struggle for labour rights remains an ongoing journey, particularly in the face of evolving economic challenges. “The PPP stands shoulder to shoulder with the workers of Pakistan, committed to building a society where every individual is treated with dignity, where labour is respected, and where prosperity is shared by all,” he affirmed.
