SHORKOT: The awareness campaign launched by the Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Maal Department appears to be failing, as professional beggars continue to dominate various parts of Shorkot city.
Beggars can be seen gathering at Tehsil Chowk, the General Bus Stand, various markets, and other major roads.
Local residents say that professional beggars have become a serious nuisance. They claim that even if someone stops for a minute to attend to a task, beggars immediately approach and start demanding money, causing considerable inconvenience.
Citizens have also expressed concerns about the possibility of theft incidents and alleged that some beggars use abusive language and utter curses when refused money. Furthermore, there are allegations that women are being harassed by some professional beggars.
Residents have demanded an immediate crackdown against professional beggars and urged the District Police Officer (DPO) Jhang and the Assistant Commissioner of Shorkot to take notice of the situation and ensure effective measures to address the issue.
