CHARSADDA: A well-known religious leader, Maulana Muhammad Idrees, was shot and killed on Tuesday in Charsadda, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Unidentified attackers fired on his vehicle, police said.
According to police, Safiullah, the Police Personal Relations Officer, Maulana Idrees had left his home in Tarangzai for Darul Uloom Noumania when the attack happened. The gunmen targeted his vehicle in the Tariqabad Utmanzai area just before he reached his destination.
Two police officials were also injured in the shooting. Police have collected CCTV footage of the incident to help with their investigation.
After the attack, Maulana Idrees’s body was taken to the District Headquarter Hospital.
Police Chief Seeks Report on Maulana Muhammad Idrees’s Killing
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General Zulfiqar Hameed has ordered an investigation into the killing of Maulana Muhammad Idrees. He asked the police in Mardan to send a report about the case.
The police chief also told the officers to take all necessary steps to catch the people responsible for the attack. He expressed his condolences to the family of the cleric and said that those involved would be arrested soon.
So far, the police have not identified who the attackers were. They described the gunmen as unknown.
The attack happened when Maulana Idrees was traveling from his home to the seminary, Darul Uloom Noumania.
The shooting took place just before he arrived at the seminary. CCTV footage from the scene has been collected to help in the investigation.
Police say the attack was carried out by armed men who fired on his vehicle in the Tariqabad Utmanzai area of Charsadda. The police are working to find and arrest the people responsible for the killing and the injuries to two police officials.
The killing of Maulana Muhammad Idrees has caused a strong reaction from police leaders, who are now actively investigating the case.
