NEW YORK: Veteran actress Meera has asked the British government to give her a visa so she can visit her sister in London. Meera said her sister, Shahista Abbas, has advanced-stage cancer and is seriously ill.
In a video shared on social media, Meera asked UK officials in Pakistan and London to consider her situation and allow her to travel. She said her mother and younger brother are also in London.
Speaking from New York, Meera said her sister’s health had worsened and she urgently wanted to be with her family. She also asked British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband and British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott to consider her visa request on compassionate grounds.
Meera has previously faced reported difficulties getting permission to travel to the UK.
