LAHORE: Actor Farhan Saeed has spoken about the emotional effect of playing Anas in Bas Tera Saath Ho. He said the strong audience reaction to the character began to affect his mood and behaviour.
At a recent meet-and-greet and media event for the drama, Saeed discussed the response to the show and the criticism of Anas. He said the ongoing online bullying of the character became so intense that people around him noticed a change in him.
“The drama itself has become a drama. People around me also told me that I started to get very irritated because of the constant bullying,” Saeed said. He added, “I also got trauma from playing this character, myself.”
The drama is in its final week and stars Saeed opposite Sana Javed. Saeed plays Anas, an orphan who discovers that the relatives who raised him have been using him and trying to take his family’s property.
After meeting Ansa, played by Javed, Anas tells her about the difficulties he has faced. They grow close, although Anas keeps some parts of his past and personal struggles private.
The character has divided viewers. Some have criticised the story’s pace and direction, while others support showing a male lead who is vulnerable rather than a traditional hero.
One fan defended the character, saying Saeed’s acting was strong and that not every drama needs a “fake hero” who changes overnight. The viewer said the story was about “sharing and understanding”.
Other viewers have questioned how the story develops and said it could have focused more on its main conflict and characters.
In an earlier interview with BBC Urdu, Saeed spoke about Anas and challenged the idea that “men don’t feel pain or they don’t cry”. He said women face serious problems, but men also suffer and are often forced to hide their feelings.
Saeed also said he was unsure about taking the role at first because Anas was unlike any character he had played before.
However, many fans later told him they related to Anas and the difficulties he faced. Their messages showed Saeed that the character’s struggles had connected with viewers, despite the criticism of the drama.
As Bas Tera Saath Ho nears its end, Saeed is also working on music. He recently released Pul Gulab Da and Beparwah. The drama’s title song, performed by Saeed, came out in May this year.
