LAHORE: Mercy Corps has announced it will adopt the name Prosper Global, saying the change better reflects its focus on community-led development, equity and local decision-making.
The organization said internal reviews and research across more than 60 language markets found that “Mercy” and “Corps” could carry unintended religious, savior-oriented or militaristic associations, and were sometimes unclear to local communities. The new name is intended to communicate progress and stability across different cultural and linguistic settings.
While emergency response remains central to its work, Prosper Global said the name highlights its broader aim of helping communities move beyond crisis toward long-term economic independence and self-determination.
The rebrand also seeks to distinguish the organization from similarly named relief groups and reflects wider efforts in the development sector to modernize partnerships and address the legacy of aid.
The organization said its mission, field projects, country leadership and operational frameworks will remain unchanged. Social workers and other local partners will continue supporting communities through existing programs as the organization transitions to its new identity.
