ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, through its National Curriculum Council (NCC) Wing, has released the draft National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2026, the updated Scheme of Studies, and the draft National Curriculum of Pakistan (NNCP) for Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) through Grade V.

The draft policies and curricula are available online, giving civil society and other groups across the country a chance to share their views.

The curriculum update aims to move away from learning by memorising and toward hands-on, concept-based learning. The new framework focuses on:
Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Encouraging students to ask questions, explore ideas and solve practical problems instead of only listening in class.

Digital Skills and Basics: Teaching age-appropriate digital skills, data awareness and computing from the primary level to help students prepare for a technology-focused future.

Inclusion and Lifelong Learning: Setting basic learning standards across all provinces and territories while allowing room for local needs and different communities.

The National Curriculum Council says curriculum reform needs input from many groups. Non-profit and development organizations can help make sure the education standards are practical, inclusive and useful in classrooms.
